On Friday, September 4, 2020, The Nahant Historical Society made Cheerio the duck an Honorary Lifetime Member. Please see the video of his induction ceremony, pictures of the event, as well as the Proclamation which includes his duties.
PROCLAMATION
By unanimous vote of the Nahant Historical Society Board, and with the blessing of our Curator Emerita, Calantha Sears, and as the Executive Director of the Nahant Historical Society, we here today induct Cheerio Thibeault as an Honorary Lifetime Member.
With this title of distinction comes certain responsibilities. We therefore charge Cheerio with the following duties:
To keep a birds-eye view from the sky on Nahant’s precious historic landmarks, encouraging his fellow flyers to avoid direct contact;
To conduct flyovers of our town wharf, public parks, golf-course, and beaches – reminding the human visitors that these places are visited, and may be the home to various wildlife species;
To stop by the Library to see that appropriate bird books, such as ‘Make Way for Ducklings’, ‘Duck on a Bike’, ‘The Duckling Gets a Cookie’, and others are available for check-out;
And, lastly, to continue to make his father proud by bringing joy and smiles into the lives of Nahanters and other humans.
Cheerio was also named one of Essex Media Group’s 2020 “Persons of the Year”
